The Lagos Life Economy: Bank, Tax, Prices and Weekly News

How money moves in Lagos Life: the bank and transfers, weekly income tax, Big Man price multipliers, economy events, government policies and the property fund.
3 min read

Every naira in Lagos Life passes through a few systems: your wallet and the bank, the tax office, the price list (which changes with your wealth), and the weekly business news. Here is how each one works.

Your balance and the bank

Your balance is the number at the top of the screen. The Bank app on your phone (the Naija Reserve Bank) shows every transaction, lets you transfer to other players and holds savings.

  • Transfers go from ₦100 up to ₦10 billion at a time.
  • Deposits and withdrawals start at ₦1,000, with daily limits on how many you can make.
  • The bank also sells bonds from ₦10,000, up to ten at a time.

Everything is recorded. Large or odd flows of money are exactly what the in-game EFCC looks for, so the bank is also where trouble starts. See crime and law.

Income tax

Tax is weekly and only applies once you earn more than ₦1 million in a week. Rates are marginal, so only the part above each line is taxed at the higher rate:

Weekly earningsRate
Up to ₦1,000,0000%
₦1,000,000 – ₦10,000,00020%
₦10,000,000 – ₦50,000,00030%
Above ₦50,000,00035%

Wages and other earnings are both counted, and the game tells you the moment you cross the line ("Tax time 🧾"). Check what you owe with the income tax calculator.

Big Man prices

Prices are not the same for everyone. Once your net worth crosses certain lines, the cost of activities at venues (and casino limits) multiply:

TableNet worth fromStakes & pricesWinnings tax
Main floorβ€”Γ—10%
VIP table₦1BΓ—1010%
Big Man table₦100BΓ—5025%
Oba's table₦1TΓ—10040%

That is why rich players see a ₦60M Event Centre listed at ₦6 billion, or a Quilox bottle that costs ten times what a new player pays. Spray money, paying bail and settling an officer are exempt. The higher tiers also take a cut of casino winnings.

Weekly economy news

Most weeks the phone posts "Lagos business news": an event that moves the income of specific businesses and the price of specific land for that week. It shows up as "Coming this week" first, so you have time to react.
